Zverev Beats Tabilo to Reach US Open Fourth Round

Alexander Zverev, the top seed at the US Open, defeated Alejandro Tabilo on Saturday to move into the fourth round of the tournament. The German player won the match 6-2, 7-6(2), 6-2. Even though he struggled in the second set, Zverev found his best tennis when it mattered most. The win keeps him on track to compete for one of tennis's biggest prizes.

Zverev came into the match already tired from two long five-set matches earlier in the tournament. He had spent nearly nine and a half hours on the court across those two matches. That kind of effort wears a player down, so many people expected another tough night for him. Instead, Zverev made things look fairly easy — at least at first.

He started the match in great form, breaking Tabilo's serve twice and taking the first set without much trouble. Zverev served so well at the end of the first set that Tabilo couldn't even return the ball. It was a strong start for the 29-year-old, who already won his first Grand Slam title at the French Open this year. He was also runner-up at Wimbledon, making this a big season for him.

The second set was a different story. Zverev built a 4-2 lead, but then his game suddenly fell apart. Tabilo, ranked 25th in the world, won three games in a row and got very close to evening the match. For a moment, it looked like the match might go much longer than expected.

During the tiebreak in the second set, a fan near the court appeared to be giving Zverev coaching advice from the stands, which is against the rules in tennis. Zverev stopped and scolded the fan before refocusing on his game. After that, he played some of his best tennis of the night. He won the tiebreak easily, 7-2, and took control of the match.

With the second set behind him, Zverev dominated the third set from start to finish. He raced out to a 5-2 lead and never gave Tabilo a real chance to fight back. After the match, Zverev joked that his coach reminded him he didn't have to play five sets every time. He said he was happy with how he played but believed he could still perform even better.

Zverev will next face 21st-seeded Italian player Luciano Darderi in the round of 16. Darderi will be a tough opponent, but Zverev looks confident and fresh heading into the next match. Fans will be watching closely to see if the top seed can keep his strong run going. A deep push toward the US Open title is looking very possible.
