Man Arrested at Perth Airport for Accessing Child Abuse Material

A 67-year-old Australian man who lives in Cambodia was arrested at Perth Airport after border officers found child abuse material on his mobile phones. The man was stopped when he arrived on an international flight. Australian Federal Police, known as the AFP, charged him on June 19 with accessing illegal material online.

Australian Border Force officers searched the man's bags and checked his phones when he landed. They found websites on his phones that had been visited and contained child abuse material. The case was quickly handed over to the AFP, who took charge of the investigation and formally charged the man.

The man first appeared in Northbridge Magistrates Court on June 20, where he was refused bail, meaning he could not go free while waiting for his next court date. He appeared again in Perth Magistrates Court on June 22, where he was granted bail. He was expected to return to court again shortly after.
