US and Iran Fight Back and Forth as Leaders Talk About Peace Deal

June 10, 2026 · The Guardian

American forces strike Iran after helicopter attack, while Vice President says war could end soon with good deal.

The United States and Iran got into a big fight this week after Iran shot down an American helicopter. US forces struck back at Iranian military targets near an important waterway called the Strait of Hormuz. Iran then attacked American bases in other Middle Eastern countries with long-range missiles. This back-and-forth fighting happened while leaders from both countries talk about ending their conflict.

Vice President JD Vance said he thinks the war could end soon with a good deal for America. He wants an agreement that helps the US economy and stops Iran from ever making nuclear weapons. Vance believes this kind of peace deal is possible within a few weeks or months. He said he wants his children to grow up knowing that Iran will never have dangerous nuclear bombs.

Iran's government blamed the United States for making peace talks harder. Iranian officials said the American attacks hurt efforts by diplomats to end the fighting peacefully. Both countries have been working on secret peace negotiations while their militaries continue to fight. The conflict has made many people in the Middle East worried about a bigger war starting.

In other news, scientists found that disappearing bees are hurting human health around the world. A study in Nepal showed that wild bees help provide important vitamins that people need to stay healthy. The research also found that bees help farmers make almost half of their money by helping crops grow. This discovery shows why protecting bees is so important for both nature and people.

Iran is not going to have a nuclear weapon.
