Young Amateur Golfers Shine at U.S. Women's Open
Two teenage players had amazing rounds at one of golf's biggest tournaments.
Two young amateur golfers had incredible days at the U.S. Women's Open on Saturday. Asterisk Talley, 17, and Aphrodite Deng, 16, both played amazing golf at Riviera Country Club. These teenagers showed they can compete with the best professional women golfers in the world. Their great rounds surprised many people watching the tournament.
Talley had a perfect round with no mistakes. The teenager from Fresno, California, made five birdies and no bogeys. Just one day before, she shot a 75 and was worried about being cut from the tournament. By the end of Saturday morning, she had jumped up to tie for 15th place.
Deng also had a fantastic day on the golf course. The 16-year-old from Canada started her round with three birdies in a row. This moved her near the top of the leaderboard with the best players. Last year, she became the first Canadian to win the U.S. Girls' Junior Championship.
Other professional players also made big moves on Saturday. Charley Hull, a popular English golfer, shot one of the best rounds of the day. She had seven birdies and only one bogey in her round. Hull was also in danger of missing the cut but played much better on Saturday.
I was just feeling like the hole was so big today.
