Trump Leaves NBC Interview When Asked About Election Claims

June 8, 2026 · CBS News

The president walked away after being challenged to provide proof of voting fraud.

President Trump walked out of a TV interview with NBC News on Sunday. The interview was recorded in Wisconsin on Friday. NBC reporter Kristen Welker asked Trump to show proof of his claims about election fraud. When Trump could not provide evidence, he got angry and left the interview.

During the interview, Welker asked Trump about his claims that there was fraud in the 2020 election. She also asked about his claims that cheating is happening now in California's primary elections. California is still counting votes from their recent primary election, which is normal for that state. Trump said California is taking so long because 'they're cheating on the election.'

When Welker asked for proof of this claim, Trump said 'All I have to do is look.' He pointed to how long the counting was taking as his evidence. Welker told him that was not real evidence. Trump then called her 'crooked or stupid' and said there was more evidence than ever that the 2020 election was rigged.

Welker reminded Trump that he and his lawyers went to court 62 times about the 2020 election. They only won one small case out of all those court battles. Trump responded by calling Welker and NBC 'crooked.' He also said the same thing about other news networks like ABC, CBS, and CNN.

Trump then told Welker, 'You're a one-sided crooked network. Sorry. Let's call it quits because I've had enough. Thank you, darling. Have a good time.' After Welker tried to get him to stay, Trump walked away from the camera and ended the interview.

California's election system is known for being slow at counting votes. Experts warned before the primary that it could take days or weeks to finish counting. California Governor Gavin Newsom even sent a letter to election officials asking them to count faster. He wanted to stop conspiracy theories about election problems before they started.

This is not the first time Trump has walked out of an interview when asked tough questions. In October 2020, he left a '60 Minutes' interview with CBS News. In January 2022, he ended an NPR interview when asked about his 2020 election claims. Both times, he complained about the questions being too hard or unfair.

You're a one-sided crooked network.
