Trump Vows to Create an 'AI Force' and Name a New AI Czar

He also said he will soon name a new "AI Czar," which is a top government official in charge of AI. Trump shared the news on Truth Social, his social media platform. He did not give many details about how the AI Force would work or who the new czar would be.

Trump compared his idea for an AI Force to Space Force, the military branch he created during his first term in office. He said the United States should not slow down its work on AI. Instead, he argued that current laws are enough to handle any problems that AI might cause. Trump called fears about AI becoming dangerous a "HOAX."

Trump also painted a big picture of what AI could mean for the country. He said AI is like the next Industrial Revolution or the rise of the internet — two events that completely changed how people live and work. He believes AI could one day make up as much as 25 percent of the entire U.S. economy. He also stressed that the U.S. is ahead of China in AI right now, and he wants to keep it that way.

Not everyone agrees that AI development should move as fast as possible. Some tech leaders have called for companies to slow down how quickly they improve their AI systems. Dario Amodei, the head of an AI company called Anthropic, has warned that AI could grow faster than humans can understand or control it. He says that could lead to serious dangers, like cyberattacks, bioterrorism, and big economic problems.

Other voices have also raised concerns. A former Anthropic researcher named Jacob Coxon has warned about the risks of building AI systems that become too powerful too quickly. This is not the first time Trump has named an AI czar. In December 2024, he appointed David Sacks, a venture capitalist, to be his White House AI and crypto czar. Sacks left that government job in May 2026 but still advises the administration. In a recent interview, Sacks said AI companies should be responsible for making their own products safe.

Trump's announcement on Saturday left many questions unanswered. He did not say when the new AI czar would be chosen or explain exactly what the AI Force would do. Still, the announcement made it clear that Trump wants the U.S. to stay at the front of the global AI race. His supporters say moving fast is key to staying competitive, while his critics worry that moving too fast without safety rules could be risky.
