President Trump Hosts UFC Fight Night at White House
The first-ever combat sports event at the president's home drew big crowds and mixed reactions.
President Trump made history Sunday night by hosting the first UFC fighting event at the White House. The outdoor show called 'UFC Freedom 250' drew over 4,000 fans to the South Lawn. Professional fighters competed in a special ring while the president watched from the front row. The event happened on Trump's 80th birthday, the same day he announced a peace agreement with Iran.
The night started with Trump and UFC leader Dana White walking out of the White House together. Military jets flew overhead while the national anthem played. Many famous people came to watch, including House Speaker Mike Johnson and Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg. After winning their fights, several fighters came over to shake hands with the president.
Weather almost caused problems for the outdoor event. Lightning threats delayed the first fight by 40 minutes, but the storms never hit Washington. Temperatures stayed warm throughout the night. American fighter Justin Gaethje surprised everyone by winning the main fight against Spain's Ilia Topuria in the fourth round.
Not everyone liked the White House hosting a fighting event. Many Democrats said it was wrong for the president to spend time on entertainment. They worried Trump might make money from the event since he owns parts of UFC. However, Trump's supporters called it a great success that showed American strength to the world.
The White House has never looked more beautiful.
