Red Sox Player Trevor Story Has Surgery and Starts Recovery

Boston Red Sox player Trevor Story is slowly getting better after having surgery on May 22. He had an operation to fix a sports hernia, which is an injury in his groin area. Story was walking carefully at Fenway Park on Tuesday, doing simple exercises. The injury made it hard for him to hit and play defense well.

Story said other players who had this surgery told him it takes 8 to 12 weeks to feel good again. He hoped he wouldn't miss that much time, but the injury kept getting worse. What started as groin tightness in spring training became a bigger problem. It hurt his batting and made it hard to reach for balls when playing shortstop.

Story is frustrated because this is another big injury since joining the Red Sox. He was proud of staying healthy last year and playing well. Now he has to step away from his teammates when they need him. Story knows he made the right choice to have surgery so he can play his best.

Other Red Sox players are also dealing with injuries. Pitcher Garrett Crochet had an MRI test for tightness in his back muscle. He was waiting for the results on Tuesday but felt better than a few days ago. Crochet hasn't pitched in a game since April 25 and was already far from returning even before this new problem.

Relief pitcher Tommy Kahnle gave the Red Sox a deadline on Tuesday. He opted out of his minor league contract, which means the team has 48 hours to bring him up to the big leagues or trade him. If they don't, he becomes a free agent and can sign with any team. The 36-year-old pitcher has been doing well in the minor leagues with a 1.40 ERA.
