The Best Local Book Events: July 19–24
From picture books to poetry, local bookstores are packed with author events this week.
Book lovers in the Boston area have a lot to look forward to this week. From Saturday, July 19, through Friday, July 24, local bookstores and libraries are hosting authors who write everything from picture books to poetry. Many events are free or low-cost, and some just ask that you sign up in advance. Whether you love fiction, memoirs, or science, there is something here for every kind of reader.
Saturday, July 19, kicks things off with events for all ages. Val Lucien and Ralph Abraham will read their picture book, 'A Journey Through Numbers,' at 11 a.m. at Hummingbird Books. Later, novelists Brittainy Cherry and Jennifer Safrey will talk about their new books at Lovestruck Books and Cafe at 1 p.m. Tickets start at $6.24, or you can pay more to get a copy of one or both books. E.M. and David Elliot will also discuss their middle-grade novel 'Bonebag' at Brookline Booksmith at 5 p.m., but you must register ahead of time.
Monday and Tuesday bring even more authors to local stages. On Monday, July 20, Chris M. Arnone, Danielle Allen, and Julie Murphy all have events at 7 p.m. at different venues around the city. Tuesday, July 21, is one of the busiest nights, with events at Boston Athenaeum, Harvard Book Store, Brookline Booksmith, An Unlikely Story, and Porter Square Books. Authors will talk about everything from national parks to haunted houses to short story collections. Many of these events include a book with the price of your ticket.
The rest of the week is just as full of great events. On Wednesday, July 22, Lisa Scottoline and S.E. Grove both discuss their new novels, and Rachel Lynn Solomon and Chelsea Curto celebrate their books together at Arts at the Armory. Thursday, July 23, has something for every taste — animal science, politics, poetry, and debut novels all get their moment. The week ends Friday, July 24, with a book signing, a music history discussion, and a conversation about religion and culture in America.
