Wife Knew About Alleged Abuse, Court Hears in Northern Ireland Trial
A former political leader's wife was told about alleged incidents but did nothing to stop them, a witness claims.
One alleged victim, called Complainant A, told the court about a disturbing incident. She says Sir Jeffrey used a bright light to look at private parts of her body. The light might have been a flashlight or torch. She was just a child when this allegedly happened.
Complainant A says she told Lady Donaldson about this incident. Lady Donaldson later asked her if she was telling the truth. The alleged victim said Lady Donaldson could tell she was being honest. But Lady Donaldson did nothing to stop the alleged abuse.
The alleged victim also told the court about another incident. She says Sir Jeffrey kissed her inappropriately when she was a child. She told Lady Donaldson that Sir Jeffrey put his tongue in her mouth. Both Sir Jeffrey and Lady Donaldson treated this as a joke, but the child was not laughing.
Lady Donaldson's lawyer says his client did ask Sir Jeffrey about what happened. But the alleged victim claims nothing changed after that conversation. She said she had no reason to make up these stories. The charges against Sir Jeffrey go back to 1985 and involve two different complainants who were children at the time.
I knew by the look on her face she knew I was telling the truth.
