Yakult Changes Orange Flavor to Peach in Singapore for First Time Since 1980

June 9, 2026 · The Straits Times

The popular Japanese drink will switch flavors in July 2026 after 46 years.

Yakult fans in Singapore will soon say goodbye to the orange flavor of their favorite drink. The Japanese company will replace orange with peach flavor starting in July 2026. This is the first time Yakult has changed flavors in Singapore since 1980. People who love the orange flavor have about a month to buy it before it's gone forever.

Masaaki Sunami is the boss of Yakult Singapore. He told customers they should drink the orange flavor now if they like it. The company will stop making orange flavor at the end of June. After that, stores will only sell orange Yakult until they run out.

Sunami said many customers asked the company to bring new flavors to Singapore. Peach flavor was the most popular request from customers. The original Yakult flavor is still the most popular in Singapore. Grape and apple flavors come next in popularity.

Yakult already sells peach flavor in other countries around the world. China got peach flavor in 2024, and it's also sold in Europe, Brazil, and Vietnam. Different countries get different flavors based on what people like there. Mexico and China have muscat flavor, while Indonesia and India sell mango flavor.

The company had to choose between keeping orange or bringing peach to Singapore. Their factory doesn't have enough space to make both flavors. Sunami said peach flavor has done very well in other countries. The company thinks peach will be popular with customers in Singapore too.

Yakult is a healthy drink that contains good bacteria for your stomach. A Japanese scientist named Minoru Shirota discovered these special bacteria in 1930. The company started selling Yakult in Japan in 1935. The drink helps keep people's digestive systems healthy.

Yakult Singapore started in 1978 and moved to its current factory in 1992. Besides the original flavor, the company has made other types of Yakult drinks. These include Yakult Ace Light, Yakult Light, and Yakult Gold. In 2025, they brought Y1000 to Singapore, which has much more good bacteria than regular Yakult.

The Singapore factory makes between 250,000 and 300,000 bottles every day. They also ship 90,000 bottles to Brunei each month. The Y1000 drink comes from Japan by airplane because it needs special technology to make. About 7,000 bottles arrive each week from Japan.

If you like Yakult's orange flavour, you should drink it now.
