Spurs Drop 150-Mile Ticket Rule for Knicks Fans

June 13, 2026 · The New York Times

New York fans can keep their tickets for Game 5 of the NBA Finals after teams reach agreement.

The San Antonio Spurs will let New York Knicks fans keep their tickets for Saturday's NBA Finals Game 5. The Spurs had a rule that said they could cancel tickets bought by people who live more than 150 miles away from their arena. Many Knicks fans were worried their tickets would be taken away after they flew to Texas to watch their team try to win a championship. The teams worked together to solve the problem so all fans can attend the big game.

During the playoffs, the Spurs used a 150-mile rule for tickets sold through Ticketmaster. This meant that if someone bought tickets with a credit card from far away, the team could cancel those tickets and give the money back. The rule was meant to save seats for local San Antonio fans. Other NBA teams have similar rules to help their home fans get tickets.

The rule became a big problem when Knicks fans started buying tickets for the Finals. Many fans from New York had already bought plane tickets and made hotel reservations to come to San Antonio. They were scared the Spurs would cancel their game tickets at the last minute. Social media was filled with worried Knicks fans asking what would happen to their seats.

New York's governor, Kathy Hochul, got involved in the problem. She wrote on social media that it wasn't fair to cancel tickets after fans had made travel plans. The governor said thousands of New Yorkers had bought tickets and booked flights in good faith. She asked the Spurs and Ticketmaster to let the fans keep their seats.

On Saturday afternoon, Madison Square Garden Sports made an announcement that made Knicks fans happy. They said the Spurs promised not to take away any tickets from New York fans for Game 5. The statement said all ticket holders would be allowed into the Frost Bank Arena. This meant Knicks fans could finally relax and enjoy the game.

Knicks fans finally get within one game of a championship and their reward is having their tickets canceled.
