During the playoffs, the Spurs used a 150-mile rule for tickets sold through Ticketmaster. This meant that if someone bought tickets with a credit card from far away, the team could cancel those tickets and give the money back. The rule was meant to save seats for local San Antonio fans. Other NBA teams have similar rules to help their home fans get tickets.

The rule became a big problem when Knicks fans started buying tickets for the Finals. Many fans from New York had already bought plane tickets and made hotel reservations to come to San Antonio.
