Famous Singer Patti LaBelle Visits Philadelphia College for Big Celebration

The Community College of Philadelphia had a big party Tuesday night to celebrate its 60th birthday. Famous singer Patti LaBelle came to the event and got a special award. More than 30 students and former students showed off their talents in music, art, and technology. The celebration was called 'Rhythm and RISE' and helped raise money for the school.

Student Kee Htoo was one of the performers at the event. He studies singing and music recording at the college. Htoo played music with other students as guests walked into the party. Even though he looked confident on stage, he felt nervous inside.

Then something amazing happened - Htoo saw Patti LaBelle walk by. 'She's a Philly legend,' he said. The excitement got even better when LaBelle noticed the student musicians. 'She even waved at me a little bit,' Htoo said.

Other students at the college were also excited to see the famous singer. Recent graduate Rhythm Soto painted artwork during the event and sold two pieces. Students also showed off pottery, advanced technology projects, and other creative work. Natalie Gustafson studies pottery and biology at the college and was shocked when LaBelle walked by her art display.

Philadelphia's mayor, Cherelle Parker, also spoke at the celebration. She talked about how important arts and music are to the city. The mayor wanted everyone to know that Philadelphia has always been connected to the arts. Inside the school's gym, Patti LaBelle accepted her Lifetime Achievement Award and thanked the students.

LaBelle gave advice to the students about following their dreams. She told them that having people who care about you is very important. Student Kee Htoo agreed with LaBelle's advice about love and support. He said the Community College of Philadelphia gives him exactly what he needs.
