Park for Free While Charging Your EV in Tampines

A company called Charge+ has set up 38 electric vehicle (EV) charging points in the Tampines Retail Park area of Singapore. Drivers can plug in their electric cars and pay between 45 cents and 73 cents per kilowatt-hour for electricity. Best of all, they do not have to pay for parking while their car charges. This is good news for EV owners looking for a convenient and affordable place to top up their batteries.

The charging points are spread across four properties, including the nearby industrial building called T-Space. Charge+ offers both faster direct current (DC) chargers and slower alternating current (AC) chargers, so drivers can choose based on how quickly they need their car charged. DC chargers fill up a battery much faster than AC chargers, which makes them useful when you are short on time.

Meanwhile, car fans in Singapore have something exciting to look forward to. One of only 18 Bentley Batur cars in the entire world will appear at a meet-up called Cars & Kopi at Dempsey Hill on August 10, from 8am to 10:30am. The Batur is named after Lake Batur in Bali, Indonesia, and is one of the rarest cars on the planet. It is built on the Bentley Continental GT Speed and has a powerful 6-litre, W12 twin-turbo engine that produces over 730 horsepower. When it was first introduced in 2022, this special two-door car cost around S$2.85 million.

Honda is also planning a big event for its fans. Honda Day will be held on September 5 at The Meadow at Gardens by the Bay. The event will show off famous Honda cars and motorcycles, including two generations of the NSX sports car and various CBR motorcycles. There will also be live music, games, and a talk by the Traffic Police. Admission is free for Honda owners, but they must register at honda.com.sg/hondaday2026, and everyone who attends will receive a $50 goodie bag.

On the car news front, Mercedes-Benz has revealed its brand-new third-generation GLA-class SUV online. The compact SUV was shown to the world on July 30, as part of Mercedes-Benz's plan to release 40 new models between 2025 and 2027. Like the recently launched CLA saloon and GLB seven-seater, the new GLA will come in both electric and petrol-hybrid versions. The car has a slightly sleeker look than the previous model, with a flowing roofline and a bold, almost retro-style front grille.

Inside, the new GLA shares its cabin design with the CLA and GLB, featuring a tall dashboard with up to two touchscreens. The car also has a longer wheelbase — the distance between the front and rear wheels — which gives passengers more room inside. The new GLA is expected to go on sale in Singapore in the first quarter of 2027. Before that, Mercedes-Benz will launch its larger GLC SUV in Singapore on August 20.
