Mom Raises Money to Help Other Families After Baby's Death

May 30, 2026 · BBC

Ami Boyd wants to buy special prams to protect families during their hardest moments at the hospital.

Flossie Bilboe seemed like a perfectly healthy baby when she was born. She weighed a good amount and rarely got sick. Her mom Ami Boyd said Flossie was actually easier to take care of than her older brother had been. For six weeks, the family from Ormskirk, England enjoyed their new baby girl.

Everything changed one evening when Flossie started crying in an unusual way. The crying sounded different and much more intense than normal baby crying. Ami knew immediately that something was seriously wrong with her daughter. She and her partner Mike decided to rush Flossie to the emergency room right away.

At the hospital, doctors worked for many hours trying to save Flossie's life. Tests showed she had bleeding in her brain caused by a rare genetic condition. This condition, called HHT, makes blood vessels develop incorrectly and can cause dangerous internal bleeding. The doctors had to transfer Flossie to a special children's hospital in Liverpool for more advanced care.

Sadly, the doctors at the children's hospital told the family that Flossie would not survive her condition. The little girl died shortly after arriving at the second hospital. Her death was caused by the brain bleeding that doctors could not stop. The family was devastated to lose their baby so unexpectedly.

Now Ami wants to help other families who face similar tragedies at hospitals. She is raising money to buy special privacy prams that have extra-long covers. These prams allow families to move their babies through hospitals without other people seeing them. Ami believes this small change can make the worst moments a little bit easier for grieving families.

It might sound like such a small thing, but when you are living through the worst moment of your life, those moments mean absolutely everything.
