Eagles Coach Takes Blame After Heartbreaking Loss to Jaguars in London
A last-second field goal by Jacksonville ended Philadelphia's comeback effort in a stunning NFL game played in England.
The Philadelphia Eagles lost a tough NFL game in London, England, on Sunday in one of the most surprising endings of the season. The Jacksonville Jaguars beat the Eagles with a 57-yard field goal as time ran out. Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said after the game that the loss was his fault, not his players'.
The game was played at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London as part of the NFL's International Series. Both teams kept trading the lead during the second half. With only eight seconds left, the Eagles kicked a field goal to go ahead by one point. It seemed like Philadelphia had done enough to win.
But eight seconds was still too much time for the Jaguars. Running back Ameer Abdullah caught the kickoff and ran it 57 yards down the field. He was stopped with just one second on the clock, giving Jacksonville a chance to attempt a field goal.
Jaguars kicker Cam Little then kicked a 57-yard field goal to win the game. It was an incredible moment that left Eagles fans shocked. The Jaguars celebrated while the Eagles walked off the field in disbelief.
Coach Sirianni spoke honestly to reporters after the game. He praised his players for fighting hard and said the defense and offense both did their jobs well. But he made clear that his own decision at the end of the game cost the Eagles the win. "I made a decision, and I lost us that game and that's what I said to our guys there," he said.
The Eagles were already dealing with some big injuries going into the game. Star running back Saquon Barkley and wide receiver DeVonta Smith both missed the game. The team also lost defensive player Jeremiah Trotter Jr. early on, after he was thrown out because of a fight during the opening kickoff.
Despite all of that, the Eagles played well for most of the game. They trailed 7-0 early but then scored two touchdowns to take a 14-7 lead into halftime. Quarterback Jalen Hurts threw a touchdown pass to Darius Cooper, and running back Will Shipley also scored a touchdown.
In the second half, the Jaguars played tough defense and kept Philadelphia from scoring another touchdown. The Eagles managed only one field goal late in the game, which they thought would be enough to win. Instead, Jacksonville pulled off one of the biggest comebacks of the NFL season so far.
The loss dropped Philadelphia to a 2-3 record on the season. Meanwhile, the Jaguars improved to 4-1, one of the best records in the league. It has been a very different start to the season for these two teams.
