NASA Astronauts Will Wear Special Prada Underwear on the Moon
The famous fashion company designed cooling clothes that go under spacesuits to keep astronauts from getting too hot.
NASA astronauts will wear special underwear made by the famous fashion company Prada when they walk on the moon. The cooling clothes will go under their spacesuits during future moon missions. This special underwear has tubes that pump cold water around the astronaut's body to keep them cool. The fashion company worked with a space company called Axiom Space to make these clothes.
The special underwear is called the Liquid Cooling and Ventilation Garment, or LCVG for short. It looks like a one-piece outfit covered in small tubes. Cold water flows through these tubes to cool down the astronaut's body while they work on the moon. The underwear even has Prada's special red stripe on one sleeve to show who made it.
Prada has been working for years with Axiom Space on this project. Axiom Space is a private company that NASA hired to make new spacesuits for astronauts. The cooling underwear will be worn under a new spacesuit called the AxEMU. This is the first time NASA has gotten new spacesuits in more than 20 years.
The underwear does more than just keep astronauts cool. It also has a system that brings fresh oxygen to the astronauts and takes away bad air. This helps astronauts breathe properly while they work outside their spacecraft. Russell Ralston from Axiom Space said the underwear keeps astronauts safe every minute they are outside.
Axiom Space might test the new underwear on the International Space Station first. They could also test it during NASA's Artemis III mission. This mission will test important equipment needed to land people on the moon again. NASA hopes to land astronauts on the moon by 2028, but there have been some delays with the project.
Every minute astronauts spend outside their vehicle, the LCVG is working to keep them safe.
