World Leaders Meet in France as Trump May Leave Early Again
The G7 summit brings together seven powerful countries to discuss wars and economic problems around the world.
Seven world leaders are meeting in Évian-les-Bains, France for an important summit. The G7 includes the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United Kingdom. French President Emmanuel Macron is hosting the three-day meeting. However, everyone wonders if U.S. President Donald Trump will stay for the whole event or leave early like he did last time.
Trump left the last G7 summit in Canada early to deal with a conflict involving Iran. This year, Iran might once again take his attention away from the meeting. Before leaving Canada last year, Trump also insulted Macron by calling him "publicity seeking." He said Macron "always gets it wrong."
The leaders face many serious problems to discuss. Wars in Ukraine and Gaza continue to cause suffering and death. A new war involving Iran has hurt the world's economy badly. Oil prices have gone up, making everything more expensive for regular people.
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will join the meeting on Tuesday. He wants to show Trump that Ukraine is still fighting hard against Russia. However, more Ukrainian civilians died in May than in any month since the war began. The leaders hope to find ways to help end this terrible conflict.
Technology leaders will also attend the summit on Wednesday. Sam Altman, who runs OpenAI, and Arthur Mensch from France will be there. They will discuss artificial intelligence and how to make social media safer for young people. Macron wants to ban social media for kids under 15 or 16 years old.
The World Bank cut forecast world growth this year from 2.9% to 2.5%, taking growth to its lowest global level since the Covid pandemic.
