Lone Holdout Juror in Lindsay Clancy Trial Speaks Out

The only juror who voted to find Lindsay Clancy guilty is now speaking publicly about his decision. Michael P. Desronvil, 48, said in a statement that he "didn't have any doubts" during the jury's discussions. The trial ended in a mistrial because the jury could not agree on a verdict. Clancy is accused of strangling her three young children in Massachusetts in 2023.

Desronvil said he believed the evidence clearly showed that Clancy knew what she was doing. "Based on all the physical evidence, key witnesses and what the prosecution presents, I thought it was enough proof that she knew exactly what she was doing and planned," he said. He also said that other jurors kept interrupting him when he tried to share his views during deliberations. He felt he was not given a fair chance to explain his thinking.

Clancy, who is 36 years old, used to work as a labor and delivery nurse. She has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder charges. Her defense team argued that she was suffering from a serious mental illness called postpartum psychosis when the killings happened. Postpartum psychosis is a rare but severe condition that can affect mothers after giving birth. Her lawyers said she could not tell right from wrong at the time.

The trial lasted nearly six weeks and drew attention from people all across the country. Jurors spent nearly 40 hours over seven days trying to reach a decision. In the end, the jury was split 11 to 1, with Desronvil as the only juror voting guilty. Because the jury could not agree, the judge declared a mistrial.

Several other jurors have since spoken to the media about what happened inside the jury room. The jury's foreperson, Roni Carlson, told NBC10 that Desronvil at one point seemed to admit he had reasonable doubt. She said she even began filling out forms for a not-guilty verdict, but then he changed his mind and said he still would not vote that way. This left the rest of the jury frustrated and confused.

Two other jurors also shared their feelings about Desronvil. Juror Kellie Farina said he struggled to move past the violent nature of the crime. Juror Paula Devlin called him "very arrogant" and said he would not listen to what anyone else had to say. These comments paint a picture of a tense and difficult experience inside the jury room.

Desronvil's lawyer, Edward Andrew Paltzik, has defended him strongly. Paltzik called his client an "American hero and champion of justice." He also posted a message on social media asking people to leave Desronvil alone and respect his privacy. He asked people not to call him or try to find out where he lives.

After the mistrial, news reports brought up some personal issues in Desronvil's past. Several news outlets reported that he had a domestic violence charge from 2021. He also reportedly had a restraining order against him for allegedly assaulting his nephew, and he was dealing with eviction proceedings while serving on the jury. These details raised questions about how he was allowed to serve as a juror in such an important case.

The local prosecutor, Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz, has not yet said whether he will put Clancy on trial again. Clancy's lawyer, Kevin Reddington, said he will ask for the jury to be kept separate from the public, known as being sequestered, if there is a new trial. A judge has set a hearing for September 29 to decide what will happen next.
