Former First Lady Jill Biden Talks About Life After White House

Dr. Jill Biden gave her first big interview since leaving the White House almost two years ago. She talked about her husband President Joe Biden's health problems and their time in Washington. The former First Lady also wrote a new book about her experiences called "View From the East Wing."

Life after the White House has not been completely peaceful for the Biden family. Four months after leaving office, President Biden was diagnosed with a serious form of cancer. The cancer had spread to his bones, which shocked both Joe and Jill Biden. "He's doing well, but it was a shock," Jill said about the diagnosis.

During the interview, Jill Biden defended her husband against people who said he was too old to be president. She said he was still the same person, just getting older like everyone does. "He was the same, the essence of the same Joe Biden, but yeah, he was slowing down," she explained. She believes the presidency is a very hard job that makes people age quickly.

The most challenging moment came during the first presidential debate in 2024. Jill noticed that Joe was not feeling well before the debate started. During the debate, President Biden appeared confused and had trouble speaking clearly. "I was frightened, because I had never, ever seen Joe like that, before or since," Jill said.

Looking back on their time in the White House, Jill Biden is proud of what her husband accomplished. He created many jobs and passed important laws to help fix roads and bridges across America. Even though their time as president and First Lady ended differently than they planned, she believes Joe Biden made a positive difference for the country.
