Filipino Artists and Leaders Celebrate Culture at Special Los Angeles Event
The fourth annual Filipino Forces gathering honored achievements and brought together talent from music, film, fashion, and other fields.
Filipino artists and community leaders came together in West Hollywood last week for a special celebration. The fourth annual Filipino Forces event was held at the Wheelhouse venue. Famous musicians like J. Rey and Guapdad 4000 joined the party along with actors, designers, and other successful Filipino Americans. The event honored the achievements of Filipinos in many different fields.
Rembrandt Flores started this event four years ago. He wanted to bring together Filipinos he admired for a special dinner. Now the event has grown into something much bigger. It celebrates how Filipino culture influences the world today.
Many important people helped organize this year's event. Raissa Gerona works as Chief Brand Officer at Revolve. Lena Salatinjants leads celebrity marketing at Nike. Marisa Pizarro co-founded Cousin Music. Melissa Magsaysay hosts a podcast for the Los Angeles Times.
The guests enjoyed a fancy four-course dinner prepared by Chef Josh Espinosa. The meal included foods with Filipino flavors like calamansi ricotta. There was even key-lime pie decorated with real gold. During dinner, people shared stories about what it means to be Filipino.
J. Rey has been the lead singer for the Black Eyed Peas since 2018. She has traveled around the world performing with will.i.am and other band members. J. Rey grew up in San Pedro, Laguna in the Philippines before moving to Los Angeles. She is both Filipino and African American.
Rapper Guapdad 4000 also spoke about the importance of the event. He is both Black American and Filipino, which makes him part of a group sometimes called "Blasian." Guapdad said he loves inclusion and representation. He was excited to see other Blasian artists like Aleali May and J. Rey at the party.
Other notable guests included actress Kristin Villanueva from "The Pitt" and Miss Universe 2022 R'Bonney Nola. The girl group H3Rizon and rapper-producer P-Lo also attended. Everyone dressed up in beautiful clothes, including modern versions of traditional Filipino outfits. As the night continued, the party got more exciting with music and karaoke.
Filipino Forces is about honoring those who have opened doors, amplifying those creating the future, and reminding the world that Filipino culture is one of the most influential and dynamic forces shaping global conversation today.
