Tom Brady Wants to Join WWE — and He Already Slapped Logan Paul to Prove It

July 20, 2026 · The New York Times

The seven-time Super Bowl champion is making noise in the wrestling world after a very public feud with YouTube star and WWE wrestler Logan Paul.

Tom Brady, the most decorated quarterback in NFL history, is making headlines again — and this time it has nothing to do with football. Brady, who won seven Super Bowls before retiring in 2023, has been publicly feuding with Logan Paul, a YouTube star turned WWE wrestler. Their rivalry got everyone's attention when Brady slapped Paul at a large sports fan event in New York City. Now Brady is saying out loud that he wants a spot in WWE.

The slap happened at Fanatics Fest in New York City, where both men were attending the event. Brady walked up to Paul, and with NBA star Karl-Anthony Towns standing nearby, Brady raised his right hand and gave Paul an open-handed slap across the face. Towns stepped in, and Brady was led away while Paul kept talking trash. The two also exchanged rude gestures at each other while watching the World Cup final at MetLife Stadium that same weekend.

The video of the slap spread fast. It was posted on WWE's official account on X, and Brady also shared it on his own page with just one word as a caption: 'Dork.' WWE even posted a separate video of Brady posing as a famous wrestler called The Undertaker, adding fuel to the idea that Brady could have a future in the sport.

This wasn't the first time the two had clashed. Back in March, before a flag football game that Brady helped organize, Paul bragged about how athletic he was directly to Brady's face. Brady wasn't impressed. When Paul kept pushing, Brady brushed him off with a single word, calling Paul's athletic skills 'cute.' Brady also said, 'I love WWE. It's very cute,' making it clear he wasn't taking Paul too seriously.

Things changed quickly, though. Just a few months later, Brady sat down for a 30-minute podcast interview with WWE star Cody Rhodes. Right away, the two talked about the idea of Brady joining WWE. Brady said he has been waiting for WWE president Nick Khan to create a story for him to join. 'I feel like I'm retired from football, have an opportunity to go out there and still showcase that I'm a little bit of an athlete,' Brady said.

Brady pointed to people he knows who have already done it. His longtime NFL teammate Rob Gronkowski has appeared in WWE matches, and so has Logan Paul. Brady said he believes he could handle 'at least one match.' He even called out WWE's president directly, saying, 'Come on, Nick. Come on, make it happen.' The very next day, he slapped Paul at Fanatics Fest.

Since retiring after the 2022 NFL season, Brady has stayed very busy. He owns a small share of the NFL's Las Vegas Raiders and the WNBA's Las Vegas Aces. He is also in his third year of a 10-year deal with Fox Sports, where he works as the lead commentator for NFL games. Adding WWE to that list would make his schedule even fuller.

If Brady does join WWE, fans are already wondering what role he would play. In WWE, wrestlers are either 'babyfaces,' which means the good guy, or 'heels,' which means the villain. Brady said the answer is easy for him: 'It's such an easy choice; I'm a bad guy.' Brady explained that playing the villain feels natural because road game crowds always cheered against him during his NFL career.

Brady described the feeling of silencing a hostile crowd as one of the best parts of competing. He said that with three minutes left in a game, he would look up and see fans leaving early because his team had already won. 'It's a great feeling when you go on the road, with your 53 players, your coaches, to a visiting stadium, where there are 70,000 fans against you,' Brady said. Whether he becomes a WWE villain or not, one thing is clear — Tom Brady is not done competing just yet.

"I need to get an invite. I've been waiting for Nick Khan to come up with some storyline for me to get in the mix."
