Popular Summer Happy Hour Returns to Philadelphia
Center City Sips offers cheap drinks and food every Wednesday for 22 weeks.
A popular summer event called Center City Sips started again in Philadelphia this week. The program brings hundreds of people to bars and restaurants in the downtown area every Wednesday. This is the 22nd year for the special happy hour event. It runs from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. every Wednesday until August 26.
Center City Sips offers special low prices on drinks and food. People can buy cocktails for $8, wine for $7, and beer for $6. Small plates of food cost less than $10. This year, bars are also selling non-alcoholic drinks called mocktails for $6.
The event helps local businesses during the summer months. Summer is usually a slower time for restaurants and bars in the city. The weekly happy hour brings in more customers. 'Sips is a big help,' said Conor O'Malley, who works at City Tap restaurant.
Many office workers come to the event after finishing their jobs. They gather at places like Dilworth Park to relax and meet friends. The program also helps people make new connections with other working people. Center City Sips started in 2004 and has become a regular part of Philadelphia's summer activities.
