Hit BBC Drama Kin Is Coming Back After Three Years Away

A popular TV crime drama called Kin is finally coming back after a three-year break. The show is set in the criminal underworld of Dublin, Ireland, and first aired on the Irish broadcaster RTÉ. It was also shown in the UK on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. Fans had been worried the show might never return, but an actor from the cast has now confirmed that filming on Season 3 has officially started.

The trouble for Kin began in 2024, shortly after its second season finished airing. A Canadian company called Bron Studios, which helped produce the show, announced it had gone bankrupt, meaning it ran out of money and could not pay its debts. This created a lot of confusion about whether a third season would ever be made. Different news reports gave fans mixed signals about what would happen next.

The good news came from actor Emmett J Scanlan, who plays the villain Jimmy Kinsella on the show. He posted a video on Instagram telling fans that filming had begun at last. 'This has been years in the making and I can't believe and I'm utterly grateful that I get to finally say: Day one, season three of Kin is now,' he announced. He also suggested the new season could be 'the best one yet.'

Kin has a strong cast of well-known actors from other popular shows and films. These include Aidan Gillen from The Wire and Game of Thrones, Charlie Cox from Daredevil, Clare Dunne from Herself, and Ciaran Hinds, also known from Game of Thrones. The show was created by screenwriter Peter McKenna and has become RTÉ's biggest scripted hit since the drama Love/Hate, which ran from 2010 to 2014.

For Season 3, RTÉ has teased that trouble will brew from inside the family itself, not just from outside enemies. The network hinted that 'festering rivalries turn inward, and the greatest threat to the family empire become the family itself.' Several companies are now working together on the new season, including the BBC as a producer, the Irish company Metropolitan Pictures, and House of Juno, a firm co-founded by actor Charlie Cox. Season 3 is expected to air sometime next year.
