High School Flag Football: Wednesday and Thursday Scores
Dozens of Southern California high school flag football teams played this week, with some big wins and a few close finishes.
High school flag football teams across Los Angeles and Southern California hit the field on Wednesday and Thursday this week. Scores came in from the City Section, the Southern Section, and intersectional matchups. Some games were close, while others were total blowouts. It was a busy and exciting week of play for student athletes all over the region.
On Wednesday, the City Section saw Granada Hills Kennedy win big, beating SOCES by a score of 47–0. North Hollywood and Sun Valley Magnet also played, with Sun Valley Magnet winning one game 13–12 in a very close finish. Those tight one-point and single-score games showed just how competitive flag football can be at the high school level.
In the Southern Section on Wednesday, there were many lopsided scores. Ayala beat Paramount 44–0, and Downey topped Santa Monica 47–12. Teams like Oaks Christian, Tesoro, and Mountain View also rolled to easy wins. One of the most exciting results was Fountain Valley vs. San Clemente, where Fountain Valley won 20–19 — a one-point thriller.
A few Wednesday games ended without even being played. Culver City defeated Dominguez by forfeit, and Lakewood defeated St. Anthony by forfeit as well. A forfeit happens when one team cannot or does not show up to play the game. Those results still count in the standings, even though no actual football was played.
Wednesday's intersectional games were also notable. Cerritos beat Garfield 38–6, Montebello edged Maywood CES 7–6, and Panorama defeated Alemany 2–0. The 2–0 score in the Panorama game was unusual — that kind of result often comes from a safety, which is a rare scoring play in football.
Thursday brought more action across both sections. In the City Section, Franklin had a huge day, winning two games — beating San Fernando 31–8 and Los Angeles Hamilton 32–6. Van Nuys also stood out, crushing Magnolia Science Academy Reseda 39–0. Eagle Rock beat Granada Hills Kennedy 33–6, and Narbonne rolled past Legacy 35–0.
Thursday's Southern Section results featured some of the week's most impressive scores. Redondo Union crushed West Torrance 69–0, by far the largest margin of victory all week. Agoura also dominated, beating Simi Valley 50–14. Meanwhile, several games were decided by just one score, like Oak Park's 18–13 win over Chaminade and Trabuco Hills' 13–7 win over Santa Margarita.
Thursday's intersectional games wrapped up the week's schedule. Canyon Country Canyon blew out Monroe 57–0, and Compton beat Port of Los Angeles 47–6. Van Nuys squeaked past Golden Valley 7–6, one of the closest games of the entire week. Just a single point made all the difference in that contest.
Redondo Union crushed West Torrance by a score of 69–0, one of the biggest wins of the week.
