Man arrested with gun at family entertainment center

Officers were walking through the Topgolf parking lot around 7:30 p.m. when they spotted something suspicious. They saw the handle of a gun sticking out from under a bag in a white Volkswagen car. The bag was on the driver's side floor of the vehicle. Police waited by the car for the owner to come back.

When the driver returned, police arrested him right away. The man was Jamon Roberts, age 29, from Richton Park. Officers found a Glock 9mm gun with bullets ready to fire. The weapon had one bullet in the chamber and 15 more bullets in the magazine.

Roberts had been in trouble with guns before. He is a convicted felon who was already on probation for illegally having a firearm. This means he was not allowed to have any guns at all. Police charged him with three serious crimes related to illegally possessing weapons.

A judge decided that Roberts must stay in jail until his court case is finished. His next court date is scheduled for June 30. The judge agreed with prosecutors that Roberts should not be released on bail.

Police Chief Jason Arres explained why this arrest was so important. 'Every illegal firearm we take off the street is one less opportunity for violence in our community,' he said. The chief was especially worried because Topgolf is a place where families go to have fun. Many residents and visitors come to this entertainment center with their children.

For two years, gun arrests happened often at Topgolf. Sometimes police made arrests every month or even every week. In total, there were 46 gun-related arrests at the venue. However, these arrests stopped completely in November 2025. Police hoped that people had finally learned that weapons were not allowed at the sports complex.
