Golden State Warriors May Trade Kristaps Porzingis
The Warriors are looking for trade partners as their star center continues to battle a serious health condition.
The Golden State Warriors are thinking about trading center Kristaps Porzingis, according to a report from ESPN. The team is worried because Porzingis, who is 31 years old, has been dealing with a serious illness. The Warriors have started looking for other teams that might want to take on the big man. This comes at a tough time for both the player and the team.
Porzingis is dealing with a condition called postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, which doctors shorten to POTS. This is an autoimmune illness, meaning the body's own defense system is not working the way it should. Because of this, Porzingis has been away from the team and thinking about what his future in basketball might look like. The Warriors have reached out to other teams to see if anyone would be interested in a trade.
Head coach Steve Kerr spoke to reporters after practice on Tuesday. He said he and Porzingis had talked on the phone a couple of days ago and had been texting for the past few weeks. Kerr made it clear that his biggest worry is Porzingis as a person, not just as a player. 'Other than my concern for him and his own well-being, I don't think of it,' Kerr said.
Kerr also talked about the basketball decisions the team has to make while Porzingis is out. He mentioned players like Al Horford and Ike Graham as possible options to fill the center spot. Even so, he said the team's top job is to support Porzingis. 'Our first order of business is to support Kristaps and help him through this,' Kerr added.
Last week, Porzingis met with general manager Mike Dunleavy and Rick Celebrini, who is in charge of player health. The meeting came after Porzingis had been away from the team due to his illness. The Warriors said the details of the meeting would stay private. Still, Porzingis chose to share a message with fans on social media.
On X, the website formerly known as Twitter, Porzingis wrote that he is working with doctors to get back to full health. He said he is getting better little by little, but that he needs to stay patient. 'I'm working with doctors and experts to figure out how to be fully back to good health asap,' he wrote. 'Health is wealth. Thank you for all the support at the Warriors practice facility.'
Porzingis also responded to people online who were making jokes or spreading false information about his health. He said he appreciated concern but wanted fans to know he is in good medical hands. He pushed back against wrong rumors and urged people not to worry. It was clear that while the situation has been hard, Porzingis is staying positive and focused on getting well.
"Health is wealth. Thank you for all the support at the Warriors practice facility."
