Three Fun Things Happening in Elgin This Year
Santa's trolley rides, new school leaders, and college programs are coming to the area.
The Fox River Trolley Museum in South Elgin is selling tickets for Santa's Trolley Express. This fun Christmas event happens even though it's only June right now. People can ride on weekends from November 28 through December 20. The trolley station is located at Blackhawk Station in the Jon J. Duerr Forest Preserve on Route 31.
The rides take place on an old subway train from 1959. Families will hear holiday stories and sing Christmas songs together. Everyone gets free hot chocolate to drink during the ride. The best part is that Santa Claus will visit with all the children on the trolley.
The District U-46 School Board has hired three new administrators for next year. Luis De León will be the new principal at Streamwood High School. He has worked in education for more than 20 years. Rafael Martinez-Ortiz will lead the Dream Academy in Elgin as its new principal.
Elgin Community College is starting two new certificate programs this fall. One program teaches students how to weld pipes together. The other program trains people to be quality control technicians. These programs help people learn skills for good jobs in manufacturing.
The rides on a 1959 subway train will include holiday stories, hot chocolate, and a visit from Santa.
