Trump's Popularity Drops as Prices Keep Rising
A new poll shows most Americans are unhappy with how the president is handling high costs.
President Donald Trump is facing his lowest approval ratings ever on inflation and rising prices. A new poll shows that only 25 percent of Americans like how he is handling the economy. This is a big drop from earlier this year. The poll was done by a company called Strength In Numbers in May 2025.
The survey found that 72 percent of Americans disapprove of Trump's work on inflation. More than half of those people said they 'strongly' disapprove. Trump's approval rating on prices fell from -31 in January to -47 in May. This means far more people disapprove than approve of his work.
Americans are still paying high prices for food and gas. These costs have gone up because of problems in the Middle East. Many families are struggling to buy things they need every day. The poll found that most people think rising prices are the biggest problem in America right now.
White House spokesman Kush Desai defended the president's record. He said Trump's economic plan of tax cuts and removing rules has worked before. Desai believes the economy will get better as Congress passes more of Trump's ideas. He thinks Americans will see improvements in healthcare and housing costs soon.
The poll tested Trump's approval on many different issues. He got negative ratings on almost everything they asked about. Border security was the only topic where people were split equally. Even some Republicans are becoming less happy with his performance.
How people feel about the economy often affects elections. With midterm elections coming later this year, these low ratings could be a problem for Trump's party. If prices stay high and people stay unhappy, it might hurt Republican candidates. Politicians know that voters often blame the president when things cost too much.
A majority of respondents identified rising prices as the single most important issue facing the country.
