Andy Baskin hosts a radio show called Baskin and Phelps on 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland. He said that James was actually close to making his announcement last week. According to Baskin, James and his team were in New York City, where the world was already paying attention because of the World Cup. That would have been a perfect moment for the announcement, but something got in the way.

Baskin says that Silver's public comments 'irritated' James and caused him to hold off on sharing his decision. Silver spoke at a business event in New York City called the CNBC Sport x Boardroom Game Plan Summit. During the event, Silver said he wanted James to decide soon so the NBA could finish building its schedule.

Silver explained that James' choice would affect big games on the calendar, like Opening Week and Christmas Day. He made it clear the league needed James to act quickly. While Silver was not trying to be rude, his words came across as pressure on James to make up his mind.

Baskin said those words did not go over well with James or the people around him. Because of that frustration, James' team decided to wait even longer before saying anything. They wanted to make it clear that no one could tell them what to do or when to do it.

James' agent, Rich Paul, backed that message up in the days after Silver's comments. Paul said publicly that his client's decision would not be rushed by anyone. For now, NBA teams, TV networks, and millions of fans will just have to keep waiting to find out where one of basketball's greatest players will play next season.
