Dad Gets Baby Magazine 19 Years Late
A parenting magazine ordered in 2007 finally arrives when the children are adults in college.
The magazine never showed up back in 2007. Edwards and his family forgot about it over the years. Then on Friday, a torn and crumpled package appeared at his door. Inside was the old magazine with a note from Royal Mail saying sorry for any trouble caused.
Edwards, who is now 52 years old, thought the whole thing was very strange. He told reporters that new parents often buy magazines and books for parenting advice. But then they learn they have to figure things out on their own. He never expected to get the magazine after so many years.
Royal Mail is the postal service in England. A spokesperson said they check their delivery offices every day. They think someone accidentally put the old magazine back into the mail system. That's how it finally got delivered after nearly two decades.
Edwards works as an author and writes science fiction books. He has been waiting for news about getting his books published. He races to check the mail every day hoping for good news. Getting a 19-year-old baby magazine was not what he expected to find.
Edwards shared his story on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). His post got 1.5 million views and almost 60,000 likes. Many people replied with their own stories about late mail deliveries. Edwards was amazed that so many people found his story interesting.
The Royal Mail has had problems with late deliveries recently. Earlier this year, hundreds of people complained about delayed mail causing them to miss important appointments. Royal Mail says that 92% of letters arrive on time and 99% arrive within seven working days.
Edwards said it would make more sense to throw away a 19-year-old magazine instead of delivering it. But he understands that things sometimes get lost in the mail. Thankfully, this magazine wasn't something really important. His children think the whole situation is weird and are more interested in how popular the story became online.
