Chinese Military Hovered as Global Tech Leaders Visited Taiwan
Major tech companies gathered in Taiwan while China sent warplanes and ships nearby.
Last week, major technology companies from around the world came to Taiwan for an important computer show. Companies like Nvidia, Intel, and SK Group talked about how Taiwan is a key part of making computer chips. But while these business leaders were meeting, Chinese military forces were nearby with warplanes and ships. This created tension during what should have been a peaceful tech conference.
Taiwan is home to some of the world's most important technology companies. TSMC is the biggest company that makes computer chips for other businesses. It makes chips for Apple phones and Nvidia computers. Foxconn is another major company that builds servers for Nvidia. These companies are very important because they make the parts needed for artificial intelligence computers.
China believes Taiwan belongs to them, even though Taiwan has its own government. China has been sending more military planes and ships near Taiwan to show its power. During the four-day tech conference, Taiwan's military counted 79 Chinese warplanes flying near the island. This worried people because these companies make computer parts that the whole world needs.
Many experts are concerned about what could happen if China attacks Taiwan. David Feith works for a think tank in the United States and used to work for the government. He said there is a big security threat from China that many people don't understand. If there was fighting, it could stop the production of important computer chips that everyone needs.
Nvidia's CEO Jensen Huang was one of the biggest stars at the conference. He announced that his company plans to spend about 150 billion dollars every year in Taiwan. This is much more than the 10 to 15 billion dollars they spent five years ago. Another company called AMD also said it would invest more than 10 billion dollars in Taiwan's technology industry.
This is the epicentre of the ecosystem.
