Man Arrested for Threatening Teen Car Crash Survivor

June 2, 2026 · CBS News

Police found 15 weapons in suspect's home after he threatened a 16-year-old recovering from a serious accident.

A 39-year-old man was arrested in Baltimore County after he threatened a teenage car crash survivor and his family. Imtiaz Sami went to the neighborhood where 16-year-old Liam O'Donoghue lives on Sunday evening. Police say Sami was armed and made scary threats to the teen's mother and neighbors. The incident happened just days after O'Donoghue returned home from the hospital.

O'Donoghue had been in the hospital for months after a terrible car crash. The crash killed two of his friends and caused him to lose his arm. He had to have many surgeries before he could come home on Friday. The teen was still recovering when the suspect showed up in his neighborhood.

Police Chief Robert McCullough said Sami was looking specifically for O'Donoghue's family. The suspect was angry about the car crash and wanted to express his feelings about it. McCullough told reporters that Sami confronted people in the Lutherville-Timonium area where the family lives. The chief said they were lucky the situation didn't get worse.

Before going to the neighborhood, Sami had written mean comments about the family on social media. O'Donoghue's mother saw these posts and recognized the suspect when he showed up. During the confrontation, she told police that Sami said her son 'shouldn't have lived.' He also told her he had a weapon with him.

The mother was very scared for her family's safety. A local news worker who lives nearby saw what was happening and tried to help. When he stepped in, Sami threatened him too. The suspect told the man, 'You don't want to mess with me. I am armed.'

People in the neighborhood were able to get Sami's license plate number and describe what he looked like. This helped police track him down quickly. They went to his home and arrested him without any trouble. Officers knew he owned guns, so they got permission to search his house.

Inside Sami's home, police found many weapons and bullets. They discovered 15 guns total, including 12 shotguns and rifles and 3 handguns. Chief McCullough said it's never a good idea to drive around with loaded guns. He reminded people that those with mental health problems can call 988 for help.

Sami is now in jail without bail and will appear in court on Tuesday. He doesn't have a lawyer yet according to court records. If found guilty of all charges, he could go to prison for up to 55 years.

We're grateful that this didn't turn out to be tragic.
